Beyond Foot Traffic

Active Transportation

A trolley, like the one Downtown Bellefonte Inc. has arranged, certainly elevates the Christmastime energy in the streets. But the needs that the trolley meets extend far beyond bringing warm tidings and good cheer.

DBI recently began working to create an active transportation plan in Bellefonte that will better enable residents and visitors to move, commute and connect. The trolley is a key piece of this process, connecting Titan Energy Park with the Waterfront District and the Downtown. Easing the need for personal transportation, the trolley provides a convenience for shoppers, as well as the people enjoying Axemann Brewery, Big Spring Distillery and all of the other attractions along the route. Equally important, active transportation elevates the reach of our local businesses and helps attract new entrepreneurs to Bellefonte.

The Active Transportation Initiative aims to connect residents, visitors, businesses and the outdoor attractions via better bicycle paths, sidewalks and rails to trails. Investing in public transportation with better bicycle and pedestrian facilities not only reduces accidents but creates opportunities for people to exercise safely.

If you have not yet ridden the trolley, take advantage of it! It is scheduled to run December 9th (1pm - 9pm) and December 11th (10am - 6pm), making stops every half hour at the Courthouse, The Gamble Mill, Big Spring Distillery and Titan Energy Park. On December 11th, Parking will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the former Centre Crest building at 502 East Howard Street. The holiday trolley will be adding this additional stop to its route from the parking lot to the downtown event.
